Boone County Bridge Construction

We recently captured aerial photos of a recently completed bridge replacement and widening in Thorntown, located in northwestern Boone County, about halfway between Lafayette and Indianapolis. Boone County has 12 townships with over 700 miles of roadway and rights-of-way, 189 bridges, and over 300 small structures to maintain across its 423.25 square miles, and for its 56,640 people, 21,149 households, and 15,509 families residing in the county.

There have been recent incidents involving some of the bridges in Boone County that underscore the importance of proper construction. The Creek Road Bridge (a.k.a. Boone County Bridge #32) sustained severe damage in November 2016, when a vehicle operator drove an oversized piece of farm equipment onto the deck, severing several tension rods and leaving other structural components bent and twisted. The damages were estimated to cost more than $250,000 just to rehab the bridge.
